Tsai Ming-liang’s Vive L’Amour follows three lonely strangers whose lives intersect within an empty luxury apartment in Taipei. Real-estate agent Mei, street vendor Ah-jung, and disaffected young man Hsiao-kang each use the unoccupied space as a temporary refuge from their isolated lives, unaware of one another at first. As their paths gradually converge, the apartment becomes a fragile site of intimacy, desire, and emotional disconnection. With minimal dialogue and long, contemplative takes, Tsai portrays the alienation of urban existence and the yearning for human contact beneath the anonymity of the modern city.
