About
Tsai Ming-liang’s Face follows a Taiwanese filmmaker invited to the Louvre in Paris to direct a film inspired by the biblical story of Salome. The production soon becomes entangled in a series of personal and professional complications, as the director struggles with the death of his mother and the disappearance of his leading actress. Blurring filmmaking and reality, the film moves between the Louvre’s grand spaces and the characters’ fragmented inner lives. Through its dreamlike imagery, theatrical tableaux, and enigmatic narrative, Tsai explores grief, artistic creation, cultural displacement, and the elusive relationship between cinema and memory.
