About
Tsai Ming-liang’s Goodbye, Dragon Inn unfolds during the final screening at a nearly deserted Taipei movie theater, where King Hu’s classic martial-arts film Dragon Inn is being shown before the cinema closes permanently. Among the sparse audience are former actors from the original film, now elderly, as well as a young Japanese spectator and a crippled ticket clerk who silently observes him. As rain pours outside and the theater slowly empties, memories, ghosts, and fleeting encounters blur the boundaries between past and present. Through long takes and minimal dialogue, Tsai offers an elegiac meditation on cinema, memory, loneliness, and the passing of an era.
