About

Tsai Ming-liang’s Stray Dogs follows a homeless father and his two young children as they struggle to survive on the margins of contemporary Taipei. The father works as a human billboard, standing for hours in traffic while his children wander through supermarkets, abandoned buildings, and commercial spaces in search of food and shelter. Their precarious existence unfolds against a bleak urban landscape marked by construction, poverty, and neglect. Through long, static takes and sparse dialogue, Tsai creates a haunting portrait of social marginalization, familial attachment, and the endurance of human beings living at the edges of modern society.
