Breath
About
Breath follows Yeon, a neglected wife and mother who becomes fascinated by the story of a death-row prisoner named Jang-jin, who has repeatedly attempted suicide while awaiting execution. After learning about his circumstances, Yeon begins visiting him in prison, transforming their encounters into strange, emotionally charged rituals. She decorates the visiting room with seasonal imagery, sings to him, and attempts to awaken his desire to live, developing an intimate connection with a man whose future appears irrevocably sealed. As Yeon's visits continue, her relationship with the prisoner becomes an increasingly obsessive response to the emotional emptiness of her own life. Her husband grows suspicious, while the prison authorities observe the unusual bond between the two strangers. Through their encounters, the film explores isolation, mortality, forbidden intimacy, and the desperate human longing for connection in the face of death.
