About

Lady Vengeance is the third and final installment in Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy. The film centers on Lee Geum-ja, who regains her freedom after thirteen years of imprisonment for the abduction and murder of a young child, a crime she did not commit. Having falsely confessed to shield her daughter, she has spent her time in prison cultivating a reputation for compassion and remorse while secretly devising an elaborate plan to avenge herself on the man responsible for her wrongful conviction: Mr. Baek, a schoolteacher with a sinister history of murdering children. Once released, Geum-ja begins executing her carefully prepared scheme, enlisting the help of former fellow inmates while seeking to reestablish contact with her daughter, who was adopted abroad. As she approaches her ultimate target, her quest for retribution leads her into a disturbing confrontation with the devastating consequences of Baek’s crimes. The revelation of the full extent of his atrocities forces Geum-ja to confront a fundamental question of justice: whether vengeance should remain a personal act of retribution or become a collective reckoning entrusted to the victims’ families. Her pursuit ultimately unfolds as a complex meditation on guilt, culpability, the moral ambiguities of punishment, and the uncertain prospect of redemption.
