About
Oldboy is the second installment of Park's Vengeance Trilogy. The film follows Oh Dae-su, an ordinary businessman who is inexplicably abducted and imprisoned in a private room for fifteen years without being told the identity of his captor or the reason for his confinement. During his imprisonment, he learns through television that his wife has been murdered and that he has been implicated in the crime. Consumed by rage and driven by the need to uncover the truth, he devotes himself to physical training and devises plans for revenge. Without warning, Dae-su is released and given a limited period to discover who imprisoned him and why. With the help of Mi-do, a young sushi chef with whom he develops an intimate relationship, he follows a trail of clues that leads him toward a wealthy and enigmatic man named Lee Woo-jin. As the investigation progresses, Dae-su discovers that his captivity was part of a meticulously orchestrated scheme designed to inflict psychological suffering far more devastating than imprisonment itself. The revelation of the motive behind his confinement transforms his quest for vengeance into a horrifying confrontation with memory, guilt, and the destructive consequences of the past. What begins as a mystery of captivity and retribution culminates in a devastating exploration of obsession, manipulation, and the limits of human endurance.
