Claire's Camera
About
Set against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival, Claire’s Camera follows Man-hee, a Korean film distribution employee who is abruptly dismissed by her boss, Nam Yang-hye, after being accused of dishonesty. Left bewildered by the decision, Man-hee remains in Cannes, where she encounters Claire, a French music teacher and amateur photographer played by Isabelle Huppert. Claire wanders through the town taking photographs with her Polaroid camera, approaching strangers with a curiosity that gradually brings her into Man-hee’s life. As their friendship develops, Claire becomes interested in Man-hee’s situation and the circumstances surrounding her dismissal, which are connected to a personal relationship with a film director. Through her photographs and conversations, Claire encourages Man-hee to reconsider how she sees herself and others. The camera becomes more than a recording device: it offers a way of looking at familiar situations anew, suggesting that a change in perspective can transform the meaning of past events.
