About
In the summer of 2007, Kim Seong-nam, a married painter in his forties, leaves South Korea for Paris to avoid arrest after being caught smoking marijuana. Settling into a modest guesthouse run by a Korean expatriate, he spends his days wandering the streets and parks, struggling with isolation and uncertainty while remaining emotionally attached to the wife he has left behind. He unexpectedly encounters Min-seon, a former girlfriend, but their reunion offers little comfort. Seong-nam subsequently meets Yoo-jeong, a young Korean art student whose beauty and enigmatic personality captivate him. As their relationship develops, he becomes increasingly entangled in romantic and moral contradictions, torn between his attraction to Yoo-jeong and his continuing attachment to his wife, Sung-in. Meanwhile, his encounters with other Korean expatriates expose the tensions, rivalries, and loneliness of life abroad. Through Seong-nam’s wandering experiences, the film explores the gap between personal desire and moral responsibility, as well as the difficulty of escaping the emotional realities one leaves behind.
