Sin Nombre
About
Sin Nombre follows two young people whose lives intersect amid the violence and uncertainty of migration through Mexico. Willy, known as Casper, is a member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang who struggles to reconcile his loyalty to the group with his desire to escape its brutal code. When the gang’s ruthless leader, Lil’ Mago, kills Casper’s girlfriend, Martha Marlene, Casper turns against the organization and becomes a fugitive, pursued by those who once considered him one of their own. At the same time, Sayra, a Honduran teenager, travels north with her father and uncle, hoping to cross into the United States and reunite with family. Their journey takes them aboard freight trains used by undocumented migrants, exposing them to predatory criminals, physical hardship, and the constant threat of violence. When Casper encounters Sayra and her companions, their paths become intertwined, and he risks his life to protect her from the gang’s pursuit. As they continue northward, the two form a fragile bond shaped by fear, trust, and the possibility of a different future. Yet their journey reveals how difficult it is to escape the forces of poverty, gang violence, and social exclusion that govern their lives.
