Amores Perros
About
Amores Perros interweaves three stories connected by a violent car accident in Mexico City, revealing intersecting worlds of poverty, ambition, betrayal, and emotional desperation. The first story follows Octavio, a young man who lives with his brother Ramiro’s family and becomes involved in underground dogfighting to earn money and escape his difficult circumstances. In love with Ramiro’s wife, Susana, Octavio hopes to use his winnings to run away with her. When a car chase ends in a devastating collision, his plans begin to unravel, exposing the destructive consequences of his jealousy and desperation. The second narrative centers on Valeria, a successful model whose promising career and relationship with a wealthy magazine executive are abruptly disrupted by the same accident. Confined to her apartment while recovering from severe injuries, she becomes increasingly distressed when her beloved dog disappears beneath the floorboards. The dog’s entrapment intensifies the tensions in her relationship and exposes the fragility of the glamorous life she has built. The third story follows El Chivo, a former guerrilla fighter who has become a homeless hitman, living on the margins of society with a pack of stray dogs. Drawn into the aftermath of the collision, he is forced to confront his estrangement from his daughter and the moral consequences of the violent life he has chosen. As the three narratives converge, the film examines how chance encounters can expose the hidden connections between seemingly unrelated lives.
