About

Inspired by a real-life maritime tragedy, Sea Fog follows the crew of an aging fishing trawler struggling to survive amid declining catches and mounting financial pressures. Facing the possible loss of their vessel, Captain Cheol-joo accepts a dangerous commission to transport undocumented Korean-Chinese migrants from China to South Korea. What initially appears to be a desperate but manageable venture soon turns into a nightmare as the boat encounters treacherous weather and the authorities begin pursuing it. As dense fog envelops the vessel, panic and confusion spread among the crew and passengers. In an attempt to conceal the migrants, the captain orders them into the ship’s cramped storage compartment, where conditions become fatal. The youngest crew member, Dong-sik, forms a bond with Hong-mae, a young woman among the migrants, and risks his own safety to protect her. As fear overwhelms reason and the crew’s actions grow increasingly brutal, the men are forced into a struggle for survival that exposes the moral collapse beneath their desperate pursuit of money. It was selected as the South Korean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards and the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, but was not nominated.
