About
Salomé follows a flamenco dance company as its director develops a stage production inspired by the biblical story of Salomé, combining documentary-style scenes of rehearsals and artistic preparation with a fully staged dance performance. The film observes the creative process as the dancers, musicians, choreographers, and designers collaborate to bring the production to life. The ballet reinterprets the tragic story of Salomé, the daughter of Herodias, whose desire for John the Baptist is frustrated when the holy man rejects her advances. At the birthday celebration of King Herod, Salomé performs the celebrated Dance of the Seven Veils, captivating the king, who promises to grant her any wish. Instead of asking for wealth or power, she demands the head of John the Baptist. Herod reluctantly fulfills her request, but Salomé's revenge brings neither satisfaction nor redemption, culminating in a tragic ending.
