About

Set in Puebla, Mexico, during the 1930s, Arráncame la vida follows Catalina Guzmán, a spirited young woman whose marriage to General Andrés Ascencio draws her into the world of political power, privilege, and corruption in post-revolutionary Mexico. Initially captivated by Andrés’s charm, ambition, and influence, Catalina imagines that her marriage will provide an escape from the limitations of her provincial upbringing. She soon discovers, however, that her husband’s authority extends beyond the political sphere into every aspect of her private life. As Andrés rises from regional strongman to an increasingly powerful national political figure, Catalina becomes more aware of his infidelities, manipulation, and ruthless treatment of those who oppose him. Although she occupies a privileged position within Mexican society, her apparent security conceals a profound lack of personal freedom.
