About

Alamar follows five-year-old Natan, whose parents, Jorge, a Mexican fisherman of Mayan heritage, and Roberta, an Italian woman, have separated. Before Natan leaves Mexico to live with his mother in Italy, he spends time with his father at Banco Chinchorro, a remote coral reef off the Caribbean coast of Mexico. Far removed from the routines of urban life, father and son embark on a journey into the rhythms of traditional fishing. Living aboard a small boat, Jorge teaches Natan how to navigate the waters, catch fish, and recognize the creatures inhabiting the reef. They are accompanied by Matraca, an experienced fisherman whose knowledge reflects a way of life closely attuned to the natural world. Through these everyday experiences, Natan develops a deeper connection with his father and discovers a cultural heritage that might otherwise remain distant from his upbringing. Fishing, swimming, preparing meals, and observing marine life become shared rituals through which their relationship grows stronger. Yet their time together is marked by the knowledge that it must eventually end, lending their seemingly simple adventure a quiet poignancy.
