Lee Chang-dong
Lee Chang-dong (born 1954) is a South Korean director, screenwriter, and former novelist and culture minister, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of the New Korean Cinema. He worked as a novelist and high-school teacher before turning to filmmaking in his forties, and has produced a small but exceptionally consistent body of work centred on grief, memory, and moral injury in contemporary South Korean society. His acclaimed films include Green Fish, Peppermint Candy, Oasis, Secret Sunshine, Poetry, and Burning.
