About

It was entered into the 25th Moscow International Film Festival where Shinobu Otake won the award for Best Actress and Shindō was awarded a special prize for contribution to world cinema. The story follows a mother and daughter living in poverty in an abandoned village for Japanese returnees from Manchuria. Desperate for food and money, they lure construction workers and other men to their home, poison them, and take their money. Their crimes continue until several men become involved, leading to a deadly confrontation in which everyone except the women dies. A year later, authorities discover nine bodies but fail to suspect the missing mother and daughter. (source: wikipedia)
