Im Kwon-Taek
Im Kwon-taek (born 1936) is a South Korean director, one of the most prolific and celebrated figures in the history of Korean cinema. He has directed more than a hundred features across six decades, moving from popular genre cinema in his early career to internationally acclaimed work engaged with Korean traditional culture and history. His acclaimed films include Mandala, Surrogate Mother, Sopyonje, The Taebaek Mountains, Chunhyang, Painted Fire (Chihwaseon, which won the Best Director prize at Cannes), and Beyond the Years.
