Carlos Reygadas
Carlos Reygadas (born October 10, 1971, in Mexico City, Mexico) is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his contemplative, visually striking, and often experimental approach to cinema. Before becoming a filmmaker, he studied law and worked in international relations. He made his feature-film debut with Japón (2002), which attracted international attention for its meditative style and exploration of human existence. His other notable films include Battle in Heaven (2005), Silent Light (2007), and Post Tenebras Lux (2012). Reygadas’s cinema frequently explores themes of faith, sexuality, desire, morality, and the relationship between humanity and nature. Recognized as an important figure in contemporary Mexican art-house cinema, he is known for his use of natural landscapes, long takes, and nonprofessional actors to create deeply personal and philosophical films.
