Carlos Reygadas
Carlos Reygadas (born 1971) is a Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer, one of the most internationally celebrated figures of the so-called New Mexican Cinema. Trained as a lawyer before turning to filmmaking, he made his feature debut Japón at thirty and has since produced a small but distinctive body of work characterized by widescreen landscape compositions, long takes, and a metaphysical engagement with ritual, sexuality, and grief. His acclaimed films include Japón, Battle in Heaven, Silent Light, Post Tenebras Lux (which won the Best Director prize at Cannes), and Our Time.
