Former Guatemalan dictator Enrique Monteverde is convicted for genocide but has his conviction overturned, sparking protests outside his home. As eerie supernatural events unfold, a mysterious maid named Alma joins the household, forcing the family to confront Monteverde's violent past. It is ultimately revealed that Alma is the spirit of a woman murdered by Monteverde after witnessing her children being killed, and Carmen, his wife, kills him while reliving Alma's final moments. The film ends with the suggestion that Monteverde's crimes continue to haunt those connected to him.
