About
Gerda (2021), directed by Natalya Kudryashova, follows Lera, a sociology student who works as a stripper to support her troubled family. Living with a depressed mother and an alcoholic father, she struggles to survive while searching for meaning and a better life. Through Lera’s dreams, studies, and encounters with people living in poverty and loneliness, the film explores the idea of the soul and the desire to escape a cruel reality. Despite some emotional distance and heavy symbolism, the film is praised for Anastasiya Krasovskaya’s performance and its haunting imagery.
