Claudine follows Claudine Price, a single mother of six in Harlem who relies on welfare while secretly working as a housekeeper. She falls in love with Rupert "Roop" Marshall, but their relationship is strained by poverty, restrictive welfare rules, family challenges, and Rupert's own financial troubles. Despite setbacks -including her children's initial distrust, her daughter's pregnancy, and legal issues involving Rupert - they choose to marry. The film ends on a hopeful note as the reunited family comes together and faces the future with optimism.
