Zoltán Fábri
Zoltán Fábri (1917–1994) was a Hungarian director, screenwriter, and production designer regarded as one of the major figures of postwar Hungarian cinema. Trained as a painter and stage director, he carried a strong sense of composition and theatrical structure into his films, which often addressed Hungary's traumatic twentieth-century history — village life under fascism, the deportations, the Holocaust — through morally serious dramatic narratives. He directed and chaired the Hungarian filmmakers' union for many years. His acclaimed films include Professor Hannibal, Merry-Go-Round, Twenty Hours, The Boys of Paul Street, and The Fifth Seal.
