Živojin Pavlović
Živojin Pavlović (1933–1998) was a Yugoslav director, writer, and painter, one of the central figures of the Yugoslav Black Wave. Trained as a painter and a literary critic, he turned to filmmaking in the late 1950s and produced features built around marginal lives in late-socialist Yugoslavia — workers, drifters, criminals — whose unsparing pessimism eventually attracted official censure. He was banned from filmmaking for several years after the so-called Black Wave was suppressed. His acclaimed films include The Awakening of the Rats, When I Am Dead and Gone, Ambush, Red Wheat, The Dog Who Loved Trains, and Deserter.
