Youssef Chahine

Youssef Chahine (1926–2008) was an Egyptian director and screenwriter, one of the most internationally celebrated figures in the history of Arab cinema. His features and autobiographical Alexandria Quartet engaged with Egyptian and Arab history, sexuality, and identity. His acclaimed films include Cairo Station, Saladin the Victorious, The Land, Alexandria… Why?, An Egyptian Story, Alexandria, Again and Forever, Adieu Bonaparte, Destiny, The Other, and Chaos.
