Wong Kar-Wai
Wong Kar-Wai (born 1958) is a Hong Kong director and screenwriter celebrated for sensuous, fragmented films about thwarted desire and urban loneliness. Born in Shanghai and raised in Hong Kong, he began as a television screenwriter before turning to direction in the late 1980s. Working without finished scripts and reshaping his films in the edit, he produced a distinctive visual style — step-printed motion, neon-saturated colour, voiceover memory — that became hugely influential in world cinema. His acclaimed films include Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, In the Mood for Love, and 2046.
