Wojciech Has
Wojciech Has (1925–2000) was a Polish director and screenwriter regarded as one of the most distinctive stylists of postwar Polish cinema. Trained at the Łódź Film School, he stood apart from the politically engaged Polish School filmmakers of his generation, devoted instead to literary adaptations of intricate, dreamlike Polish-language prose. His films are built around densely layered visual designs, baroque interiors, and a fascination with memory and time. His acclaimed films include The Noose, How to Be Loved, The Saragossa Manuscript, The Doll, and The Hourglass Sanatorium.
