William Coldstream
William Coldstream (1908–1987) was a British painter and a sometime collaborator on documentary films of the British Documentary Film Movement in the 1930s. He is principally remembered as a major figure in British art and art education — head of the Slade School of Fine Art for nearly three decades — but in his early career he worked on GPO Film Unit documentaries under John Grierson, sometimes as a co-director, before returning fully to painting. His credited film work includes Coal Face, Negroes, and 6.30 Collection.
