Werner Herzog
Werner Herzog (born 1942) is a German director, screenwriter, and actor known for films built around obsessive figures pursuing impossible projects in extreme landscapes. A self-taught filmmaker who began making shorts as a teenager, he became a central figure of the New German Cinema alongside Fassbinder and Wenders. His features and documentaries blur the line between fiction and reportage, often shot on location in jungles, deserts, or polar regions with notoriously demanding production methods. His acclaimed films include Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Nosferatu the Vampyre, Fitzcarraldo, Grizzly Man, and Cave of Forgotten Dreams.
