Walter Ruttmann
Walter Ruttmann (1887–1941) was a German director, one of the foundational figures of European avant-garde cinema. His feature Berlin: Symphony of a Great City — a non-narrative montage portrait of Berlin from dawn to night — is one of the canonical works of the city-symphony genre. His acclaimed films include Lichtspiel: Opus 1, Berlin: Symphony of a Great City, and Melody of the World.
