Vasili Shukshin

Vasili Shukshin (1929–1974) was a Soviet director, screenwriter, novelist, and actor, one of the most distinctive figures of late Soviet cinema. He died of a heart attack at forty-five during the filming of one of his most ambitious projects. His acclaimed films include There Lives a Lad, Strange People, Happy Go Lucky, and The Red Snowball Tree.
