Ulrich Seidl
Ulrich Seidl (born 1952) is an Austrian director and screenwriter whose unsettling, formally rigorous features and documentaries have made him one of the most controversial figures in contemporary European cinema. He began with documentaries about Austrian provincial life before turning to fiction with Dog Days. His work uses static, frontal compositions and a sharp ethnographic eye to examine sexuality, religion, and middle-class hypocrisy. His acclaimed films include Animal Love, Models, Dog Days, Import/Export, Paradise: Love, Paradise: Faith, Paradise: Hope, and Rimini.
