Tsui Hark
Tsui Hark (born 1950) is a Vietnamese-born Hong Kong director, producer, and screenwriter, one of the most influential figures of the Hong Kong New Wave and of the subsequent global rise of Hong Kong action cinema. Trained at Southern Methodist University in Texas, he returned to Hong Kong in the late 1970s and produced a string of inventive features and produced others that, alongside his own studio Film Workshop, reshaped Hong Kong action and fantasy cinema for the 1980s and beyond. His acclaimed films include The Butterfly Murders, Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain, Peking Opera Blues, A Better Tomorrow (as producer), A Chinese Ghost Story (as producer), Once Upon a Time in China, The Blade, and Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame.
