Tony Gatlif

Tony Gatlif (born 1948) is a French director, screenwriter, and composer of Algerian Roma descent whose work has been devoted, over many decades, to portraying Roma communities across Europe and beyond. He turned to film in the 1970s and gradually developed a hybrid style mixing fiction, documentary, music performance, and travelogue, often centred on music as a vehicle for collective memory and survival. His acclaimed films include Princes, Latcho Drom, Gadjo Dilo, Vengo, Exiles, and Korkoro.
