Tian Zhuangzhuang
Tian Zhuangzhuang (born 1952) is a Chinese director and producer, one of the founding figures of the Fifth Generation of Chinese cinema alongside Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou. He spent his youth as a Red Guard during the Cultural Revolution before training at the Beijing Film Academy in the first class to graduate after the schools reopened. After the international success of his early features, his uncompromising feature The Blue Kite resulted in a decade-long ban from filmmaking; he resumed his career in the 2000s. His acclaimed films include On the Hunting Ground, Horse Thief, Rock Kids, The Blue Kite, Springtime in a Small Town, and The Go Master.
