Souleymane Cissé

Souleymane Cissé (born 1940) is a Malian director, one of the most internationally celebrated figures in the history of African cinema south of the Sahara. He trained at VGIK in Moscow before returning to Mali. His feature Yeelen (The Light) won the Jury Prize at Cannes. His acclaimed films include Den Muso, Baara, Finye, Yeelen, Waati, and Min Yé.
