Silvio Soldini
Silvio Soldini (born 1958) is a Swiss-Italian director and screenwriter whose career has produced understated dramas of contemporary Italian middle-class life. Trained at New York University's Tisch School, he returned to Italy in the 1980s and developed a body of work centred on quiet, observational character studies, often featuring strong female protagonists, with a particular interest in the connections between people and the cities they inhabit. His acclaimed films include Voci Celate, A Soul Divided in Two, Burning in the Wind, Bread and Tulips, Days and Clouds, Come Undone, and Three Sisters.
