Santiago Álvarez
Santiago Álvarez (1919–1998) was a Cuban documentary director regarded as one of the most important political documentarians of the twentieth century. After the Cuban Revolution he became head of the news division of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, where over more than three decades he produced hundreds of weekly newsreels and short documentaries that combined newsreel footage, photographs, slogans, and music into a distinctive form of revolutionary essay film. His acclaimed films include Now!, Hanoi, Tuesday 13th, LBJ, 79 Springtimes of Ho Chi Minh, and El Tigre Saltó y Mató, Pero Morirá... Morirá....
