Ruy Guerra
Ruy Guerra (born 1931) is a Mozambican-Brazilian director, screenwriter, and actor, one of the central figures of Cinema Novo. Born in Lourenço Marques in then Portuguese Mozambique, he trained at IDHEC in Paris before settling in Brazil in the late 1950s. His early Brazilian features helped define Cinema Novo's politically engaged realism, and his later work has moved across continents and genres, including major collaborations with the novelist Gabriel García Márquez. His acclaimed films include The Hustlers, The Guns, Sweet Hunters, Tendre Dracula, Eréndira, Opera do Malandro, and Estorvo.
