Roy Andersson
Roy Andersson (born 1943) is a Swedish director, screenwriter, and producer who reinvented the European art-house feature with a tableau-based visual style of static long takes, painted backdrops, and pale, almost ghostly performances. After his celebrated youth feature A Swedish Love Story, he spent two and a half decades working primarily on advertising commercials before returning to features with a singular trilogy of films about what he called Living and the human condition. His acclaimed films include A Swedish Love Story, Giliap, Songs from the Second Floor, You, the Living, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, and About Endlessness.
