Robert Wiene
Robert Wiene (1873–1938) was a German director, one of the founding figures of German Expressionist cinema. His feature The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari — with its tilted, painted sets and frame narrative — is one of the most influential films in the history of cinema and a defining work of the Expressionist movement. His subsequent features did not equal Caligari's reputation, but he remained an active studio director through the early sound era and the rise of the Nazi regime, after which he emigrated. His acclaimed films include The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Genuine, Raskolnikow, The Hands of Orlac, I.N.R.I., and The Other.
