Robert Altman
Robert Altman (1925–2006) was an American director and screenwriter, a singular voice in the New Hollywood generation. After two decades directing industrial films and television, he broke through in 1970 with M*A*S*H and went on to produce more than thirty features built around large ensembles, overlapping dialogue, and a sceptical, observational eye on American institutions — the military, the western, country music, fashion, politics. His acclaimed films include M*A*S*H, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye, Nashville, 3 Women, The Player, Short Cuts, and Gosford Park.
