Richard Attenborough
Richard Attenborough (1923–2014) was a British actor, director, and producer, one of the most prominent figures in postwar British cinema. After a long career as a stage and screen actor, he turned to direction in the late 1960s and produced large-scale historical and biographical features marked by social conscience and impressive production scale. His feature Gandhi won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1983. His acclaimed films include Oh! What a Lovely War, Young Winston, A Bridge Too Far, Gandhi, A Chorus Line, Cry Freedom, Chaplin, Shadowlands, and Closing the Ring.
