Raúl Ruiz
Raúl Ruiz (1941–2011) was a Chilean-French director, screenwriter, and theorist who produced one of the largest and most adventurous filmographies in late-twentieth-century European cinema. After early features in Chile under the Allende government, he went into French exile after the 1973 coup and continued to work at extraordinary speed across features, television, and essay film. His work was famously inventive in its narrative structures and its theoretical writings — especially the Poetics of Cinema — became influential in their own right. His acclaimed films include Three Crowns of the Sailor, City of Pirates, Time Regained, That Day, and Mysteries of Lisbon.
