Pietro Germi
Pietro Germi (1914–1974) was an Italian director, screenwriter, and actor whose career bridged Italian neorealism and the satirical comedy of the Italian commedia all'italiana. Trained at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, he produced a body of work that included American-influenced crime features in the late 1940s and sharp social comedies set in his native Sicily that mocked the country's family, legal, and religious codes. His acclaimed films include In the Name of the Law, The Path of Hope, The Railroad Man, Divorce Italian Style (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay), Seduced and Abandoned, The Birds, the Bees and the Italians (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes), and Alfredo, Alfredo.
