Peter Weir
Peter Weir (born 1944) is an Australian director and screenwriter, one of the central figures of the Australian New Wave and of subsequent international cinema. Trained at the University of Sydney, he turned to filmmaking in the late 1960s and produced a series of features that brought Australian cinema to international attention before moving to Hollywood, where he continued his career with prestige features across multiple genres. His acclaimed films include Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness, Dead Poets Society, Green Card, Fearless, The Truman Show, Master and Commander, and The Way Back.
