Peter Greenaway

Peter Greenaway (born 1942) is a British director, painter, and curator, one of the most distinctive visual stylists in contemporary European cinema. Trained as a painter, he worked for many years as an editor at the British Central Office of Information before turning to direction. His features combine painterly compositions, mathematical structures, baroque art-historical reference, and a deliberately formalist approach to narrative. His acclaimed films include The Draughtsman's Contract, A Zed & Two Noughts, The Belly of an Architect, Drowning by Numbers, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, Prospero's Books, The Pillow Book, and Nightwatching.
