Paul Verhoeven
Paul Verhoeven (born 1938) is a Dutch director, producer, and screenwriter, one of the most internationally successful figures in late-twentieth-century commercial European and American cinema. A doctorate in mathematics and physics from Leiden University preceded his career as a filmmaker, which began in the Netherlands with a series of provocative dramas before he moved to Hollywood and reinvented himself as a genre director of unusual political bite. His acclaimed films include Turkish Delight, Soldier of Orange, Spetters, The Fourth Man, RoboCop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Starship Troopers, Black Book, Elle, and Benedetta.
