Paolo Taviani, Vittorio Taviani
Paolo Taviani (born 1931) and Vittorio Taviani (1929–2018) were Italian brothers who directed and wrote together for more than half a century, producing some of the most distinctive Italian features of the late twentieth century. Drawn to filmmaking by the example of Rossellini, they began with documentaries and a co-direction with Valentino Orsini before settling into their longstanding two-director partnership. Their work fused political engagement, folk tale, and a strong painterly sense of landscape. Their acclaimed films include Padre Padrone, The Night of the Shooting Stars, Kaos, Good Morning, Babylon, Caesar Must Die, and A Season in Hell.
