Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Nuri Bilge Ceylan (born 1959) is a Turkish director, screenwriter, and photographer, the most internationally celebrated figure of contemporary Turkish cinema. Trained as an electrical engineer before turning to photography and then film, he developed a contemplative, talk-driven style influenced by Chekhov and by his earlier still photography of Anatolian landscapes. His features have been a regular presence at Cannes for two decades. His acclaimed films include Clouds of May, Distant, Climates, Three Monkeys, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia, Winter Sleep, and The Wild Pear Tree.
